Organist’s space: events, organ travels and player stories

Oxford Recitals August 4th to 9th

Oxford with title

This is a wonderful opportunity to listen to some of Oxford’s very best organs in use during the summer course introducing young musicians to ‘The organ Scholar Experience’. The marvellous new Dobson instrument at Merton will be played by Tom Bell. Also one of my favourites, the Walker in Exeter College an instrument in the French style with a terraced console and wonderfully powerful reeds will be played by Daniel Moult. Also being used for a choral evensong is the new Tickell organ in Keble College.  Full details of the locations and timings are shown below. I may well have time to get the evensong in my old college Jesus which now has an organ by Willam Drake which is a great improvement on the rather muddy Victorian instrument present when I was there almost 40 years ago now!  Tempus Fugit.

I have had a passion for church organs since the tender age of 12. I own and run Viscount Organs with a close attention to the detail that musicians appreciate; and a clear understanding of the benefits of digital technology and keeping to the traditional and emotional elements of organ playing.
