Cantata (2 replies)
Hello Expat 68,
I have just acquired a Cantata - it is all working except that the internal amplifier resets itself every now and then. It's probably dry capacitors, so I'm going to open it up in the next couple of weeks to find the offending capacitors. I might gain some insight into the problem with your organ while doing this, so (assuming you have not yet repaired it) can you tell me whether there were any problems prior to the fault you describe... and with the present fault - are there any consistent patterns or symptoms at all - such as the same note sounding, or the same stops often lighting on start-up. You say that stops and couplers have no effect - can you get any other keys to sound or is it just the 'random' keys that are sounding?
Cheers, Glenn.
Hi Glenn. Good to hear from the other side of the world! Yes - electrolytics can't be expected to keep going as long as this. I haven't found anyone who would look at my Cantata - well, not at a less-than-exorbitant cost, and with no guarantees of successful repair. Prior to the present fault there was occasional misbehaviour, usually cured by switching off and back on, sometimes more than once (there's nothing like a re-boot!) The start-up does indeed usually light up the same or a very similar combination of stops and thumb pistons, etc., and the same note/notes sounding. And finally - no manipulations of keys, stops or other controls have any effect at all. Best wishes, and good luck!
Back to Viscount Organs Forum...
I have a Cantata, about 25 years old, and it has suddenly developed a serious fault making it unplayable. On switching on, completely random symptoms occur: various stops illuminate, various tones sound, attempting to use any stops/couplers etc has no effect. I would love to get it repaired, but I have no idea how to do so...
Any suggestions gratefully received.
(I live in the corner of Alsace near the French/Swiss/German border).
