Recording Via Line Out (1 reply and 1 comment)
I have a Viscount Physis Sonus 60 at home. I make audio recordings of me playing/practicing via the organ’s headphone socket.
I use a Zoom Q2N-4K video/audio recorder. [The Zoom Q2N-4k is designed to work in either audio mode or in audio-video mode.] The Q2N-4k records in various formats and file-qualities according to the situation. The Q2N-4k runs from AA batteries or 5v mains adaptor. I use a 32gb micro sim card so have plenty of storage.
With the Q2n-4k plugged into the headphone socket I plug my headphones into the Q2N-4K to hear what I am recording. NB I use a combination of the Physis onboard ‘PHO’ volume control and the camera’s own input controls to get the best audio-levels. The recorded sound is excellent including reverb levels. [Health and Safety: Always be vigilant over volume in headphones.] If I so wish I can also video-record myself at the same time using the same ‘direct-via-headphone-socket audio-recording’ but with the camera activated.
I transfer the recorded results to my Mac [or PC] desktop via USB to edit. Simple entry-level editing software comes free-to-download if you don’t have any.
As a freestanding recording device the audio and video results are equally excellent. I have got into a habit of using the Q2N-4k to video-record myself accompanying church services. Handy for self appraisal. My presentation & posture has definitely improved, as too my performance! [IMHO, obvs]

Thanks for the reply. I think your approach is great. I'm trying to record into a PC from the headphone jack. I plug in to the PC line in. I am hearing certain notes drop out (not completely but they become very soft) and I believe it depends on where they are in the stereo field. I have set up several stops with various wind chest configurations that alternate right to left and gradually come to center. It is those stops that seem to be the most affected. The recorded signal is not stereo either. Could be incorrect phone jacks....? Might need to invest in the Zoom unit you mention. It sounds like it would be quite nice for this.

Any suggestions on how to record the output of a Viscount UNICO CLV8 into an audio recording program on a computer via line outs? (no microphones) The external outs are presently connected to an amp servicing 4 external speakers. The only way I can see is to use the headphone jack on the organ to feed the computer line in. Any problems with that?
