Viscount Domus 1332 - External Speakers (1 reply and 1 comment)
Our church has just received a very generous donation of a second-hand Domus 1332 with two large Viscount powered speakers. I'm not sure that the speakers are working, but it's hard to be certain as we have temporarily placed them either side and slightly behind the console until we get a Faculty to fit them on the west wall of the church.
Can anyone confirm which sockets on the back of the organ they should connect to please? I have currently connected one to the socket marked 'General' and the other to the socket marked 'Manual lll' I also see that the internal bulb in the external speaker switch isn't lighting up. Is this unimportant, or could it affect the power getting to the speakers? There is also a rocker switch on the back of each speaker with alternative positions of 'Local' and 'Remote' Which should we select?
Hi, It's been a while (c 30yrs) since our church had one of these installed, so my memory is very thin. From what I recall, the "external" switch only activates 12v power on sockets on the rear connections panel. This, in turn, would be used to activate relays in the power units of the external speakers. If you're not using these, then "local" on the external speakers is probably the correct setting. The speaker jacks are "subtractive" -i.e. the Main output contains all channels apart from the others that have a jack inserted. I hope this helps. If I can find the instructions anywhere I'll upload them.
Many thanks. After some googling and experimenting, they are now both live, but both are buzzing quite loudly. I wonder if this could be feedback due to their (temporary) proximity to the console? I need to experiment further both by moving them and by changing the connecting cables. Many thanks for your help. It sounded good at Mass today!
