The Bromley Organists’ & Choirmasters’ Association was founded in the 1920s to support the work of local church musicians. In the 1960s it was joined by members from the former Croydon Association and re-formed under its present title.
The Association aims to encourage and promote interest in all aspects of church music and it welcomes into membership all those with an interest in organs and choirs and the music they perform.
The Bromley and Croydon Organists Association is a society of organists whose aim is to promote wider interest in what Mozart called ‘The King of Instruments’. They visit many interesting organs and have a passion for furthering interest and education in this most absorbing and fascinating of instruments.
Introducing the Organ – A new free lesson scheme
They are now offering free organ tuition to the value of £275 for beginner organists aged from 8 to 19.
Expert tuition and advice will be offered to students, supported by they society. In addition to free organ lessons, last year’s award-holders benefitted from a workshop and presentation of certificates with distinguished organist Anna Lapwood. Similar events are planned for new award holders.
Students who can play the piano to around grade 4/ 5 standard will quickly adjust to organ playing – but all applications will be seriously considered.
There are five awards of £275 available for 2022-2023. They are designed to cover the cost of organ lessons with a BCOA appointed tutor or another approved teacher.
