A lower-cost adjustable organ bench, now available

A height adjustable organ bench is considered a bit of a luxury item to add to the purchase of an organ. But sitting at the right height is an important issue, especially if you are starting on the journey of learning to play the instrument.

The hymn book trick

To save money I have often pointed out a trick to customers that I have seen on many occasions when playing at churches. Hymn books and psalters have often been placed under the organ bench legs to raise the height of the seat; the psalter adds about an inch and the hymn book perhaps two inches.

This is a very practical and low-cost solution to adjust to your personal height, but not an easy option when there is a succession of different players to satisfy. And it only raises the height. You need to get a saw and cut something off the legs if you want a lower seat!

Introducing the adjustable bench

So, I am very pleased now to announce the option of a fully adjustable bench that offers a seat height adjustment between 60.5 cm and 68 cm. There is 120 cm between the legs so it should accommodate most 32 note radiating concave pedal boards. The horizontal support is 20 cm above floor level so again most pedal boards will sit comfortably under the support that offers a resting place for your feet when not playing.

Pricing and finish options

All of this for £1,300 including VAT, with delivery cost depending on the distance from Bicester. The adjustable bench is available in both a light oak and dark oak finish. This is a significant saving on the real wood adjustable bench which is still available at £1,950 including VAT and offers a slightly greater height adjustment, though again with a hymn book under the feet you can achieve that with the cheaper bench option!
